In 1998,  Fossett embarked on a remarkable journey to set the record for the fastest nonstop circumnavigation of the Earth in a G IV.

The G IV provided Fossett with an ideal aircraft for this ambitious endeavor.

The flight took 67 hours, 1 minute, and 10 seconds of nonstop flying, Fossett successfully completed his circumnavigation of the Earth, securing the record for the fastest achievement of its kind. Equipped with cutting-edge engines and aerodynamics, the G500 demonstrated its ability to cover long distances efficiently while ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers.

During this flight, the Gulfstream G500 completed the West Palm Beach to Las Vegas route in an astonishing 3 hours and 54 minutes, setting a new speed record for its class. This remarkable achievement highlights the aircraft’s capabilities and showcases the advancements in aviation technology.

With its state-of-the-art avionics systems and sleek design optimized for speed and efficiency, the Gulfstream G500 sets new industry standards and redefines the possibilities of business aviation.

Other records set by the G500 (reported by James Wybrand in AIN in 2018) commenced in February on flights connecting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean and included a Singapore-to-Dubai leg completed in six hours and 54 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.90. A pair of transatlantic records were also established during the tour: Luanda, Angola to Foz Do Iguaçu, Brazil in eight hours and nine minutes at Mach 0.90; and Lagos, Nigeria to Bridgetown, Barbados in nine hours and eight minutes at Mach 0.87. For a flight from Kona, Hawaii to Melbourne, Australia, speed was dialed back to Mach 0.85, but the G500 still set a record of 10 hours and 37 minutes in making the transit.

Embraer Phenom 100 Receives Positive Feedback from Operators and Owners

The sentiment among owners and operators of the Embraer Phenom 100 light jet is overwhelmingly positive, with praises for the aircraft’s performance and the responsiveness of Embraer in addressing concerns, according to a recent article in FlightGlobal.Despite some expected teething problems that arise with any new aircraft, operators express satisfaction with the overall reliability and improvements seen over time.

According to JetSuite Director of Maintenance Marc Nouh, the initial challenges were expected for a new aircraft, but Embraer and its vendors have done a commendable job in addressing and resolving issues. Dispatch reliability has improved, and the aircraft is now performing consistently. Nouh expresses confidence that going forward, the Phenom 100 will be even more reliable.

Fletcher from FlairJet shares similar sentiments, acknowledging that “teething problems” are normal for a new aircraft type. The company was aware of potential issues with early serial numbers and appreciates the ongoing support from Embraer in resolving them.

Jim Frost, another owner, compares the teething problems to their experience with other new aircraft, emphasizing that considering the Phenom 100 was Embraer’s first light jet, the overall experience has been great.
